What is the Investors Choice® Venture Capital Conference? 

The Investors Choice® Conference is the longest running venture capital conference in the country. At this unique “Pitch” event,  twenty-four entrepreneurs from high-technology/high-growth companies that have been vetted and mentored by our Cooperative Venturing Network will present their business opportunities to local, regional, and national investors. Apply today to present your company. The deadline is November 15th!

The application process is easy. Click the “Apply” button and fill out a one-page summary that is used by all investors. If you have additional information and would like to include it, such as a business plan or a four-minute video that clearly states your value proposition and why you will win in the marketplace, it can be uploaded as well.

Companies that are selected to present are responsible for a $500 presentation fee. This fee covers the cost of the CEO’s registration to the conference, investors reception, and ski day. It also includes extensive mentoring by our network and display space at the conference.

The Conference is the premier event to meet and collaborate with the biggest group of investors in the intermountain region. Since 2009, Alumni of this conference and process have raised over $1 billion in angel/venture financing. Jerry HenleyJerry Henley is currently the Managing Partner of Rubicon Capital Consultants (RCC). RCC focuses on bridging the gap between successful companies and the “right” value added financial partner. RCC geographical expertise is in the western United States with an emphasis in the Intermountain West. Although Mr Henley has owned many small businesses he cut his teeth with Sorenson Capital, which has over a billion dollars under management. He joined Sorenson Capital Partners (SCP) as the VP of Marketing in May 2011 and, through his well-established networks, focused on the firm’s sourcing and marketing efforts. In late 2013 he took a sabbatical from full time with SCP to become the Managing director with a large software development company where he and his team turned the company from declining year over year sales to a 50% growth model. During that time and to this date he still consults with SCP in the area of M & A. Prior to joining Sorenson Capital, he was Associate Director with the Office of the President at Brigham Young University where he worked very closely with the national business community in major fundraising projects. Mr. Henley’s background includes 17 years with Amgen Biotech and 4 years with Pfizer. He started carrying a bag and eventually was promoted to numerous positions in Corporate Accounts over Integrated Health Systems and also Government contracts.

william.borghettiWilliam Borghetti is the CEO of D’Affinity Holdings and its operating subsidiary, Title IO.  Title IO’s breakthrough data integration technology, SecureSync, helps companies easily access, synchronize and share data from multiple sources, regardless of type, format or location.  Title IO’s products and solutions are primarily focused on title and escrow companies, law firms and mortgage lenders. Prior to Title IO, William was the CEO of Sendside Networks, a secure communication platform for the financial services industry and was the founder, president and chief technology officer of Campus Pipeline, an enterprise software company that developed an integration and communication platform for the higher education marketplace.

The Investor Feedback Sessions represent a milestone for our Directed Mentoring Teams to get valuable feedback from our Investor Panelists before the companies present at the Conference.  All the companies that will be presenting at the Investors Choice Conference will be presenting either in person or via teleconference.

The 2017 Investor Feedback Sessions and Reception will be held on January 26th and 27th. On January 26th, the Investor Feedback session will begin at 8:45 AM followed by a small reception in the evening. On Friday, January 27th, the Investor Feedback session will be held from 8:45 AM to about 2:30 PM.

sambernards2In three words, Sam Bernards is a creative, strategic leader. Now serving as the CEO of Purple, one of Utah’s most rapidly growing companies. Prior to this, Sam was a founding team member of Peak Ventures. Sam was also responsible for leading the successful launch and test of Walmart Small Formats (Express). He holds two degrees from Brigham Young University – a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics with emphasis in Computer Engineering, and a Master of Business Administration, Supply Chain Management from the Marriott School of Management, where he was named Hawes Scholar. Sam also served as the President of the NW Arkansas chapter of the BYU Management Society. With more than 16 years experience creating strategic business and systems value for retail, financial and start-up companies, Sam is fluent in Italian & English with international business experience in Milan, Italy and Munich, Germany.

Bradley B. BertochBrad Bertoch serves as President of VentureCapital.org—a nonprofit, nationally recognized, entrepreneurship organization. He is a leader in equity backed business development, capital formation, and technology commercialization and entrepreneurship. Under his direction, companies participating in an Institute venture conference have raised over $2 billion in private equity and created or retained over 40,000 high tech jobs throughout the United States. Brad is a member of Salt Lake, Park City and Salt Lake Life Sciences Angel and WBI Angels groups and was a venture partner with Hamilton Bio-Ventures Fund II. He is currently a fellow of the Foundation for Enterprise Development, and co-founder and current board member of the MountainWest Capital Network.

phil-bradley4Phil Bradley is currently an Investor in and Board Member of several early stage software companies.   From 1995 until its acquisition by Microsoft in 2006 he was CFO and co-founder of ProClarity Corporation, an early pioneer in Analytics.  Prior to ProClarity he served three years as CFO of Extended Systems and 18 years with Deloitte & Touche, where as a partner he managed the firm’s services to a wide variety of public and private companies in both high technology and traditional industries.  Phil has been directly involved in raising over $20 Million of private equity from Angel Investors and Venture Capital Firms.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.

He was the Director of Investments at Linden Global Strategies, a New York City-based firm with $3 billion of assets under management. In 2011, he helped launch that business by building the investment platform and overseeing all direct investments. Until 2011, Mr. Carter was an investor with a large single-family office based in New York. Previously, he held positions with investment teams at Morgan Stanley in New York and Merrill Lynch’s Private Banking and Investment Group in Los Angeles. Throughout market cycles, Mr. Carter has identified and executed significant investments across capital structures, strategies, and asset classes. He is an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Brigham Young University, Senior Advisor to Western Heritage Capital, a member of The Economic Club of New York, and a fly fisherman.

Shawn Fojtik PicShawn Fojtik is Founder CEO of Control Medical Technology with 25+ years experience at GE Medical, Boston Scientific, and start-ups. Shawn has 35+ issued and pending patents on award-winning cardiovascular devices and consumer products with a BS from the University of Illinois and a MA from Harvard University.

Bob GottdenerBob Gottdener, WBI Angels, is a former director of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith. Mr. Gottdener has more than 38 years of investment experience during which he has participated in 14 IPOs. He graduated from the University of Illinois and earned a certificate from the Securities Industry association at the Wharton Business School. Mr. Gottdener specializes in working with high growth companies who have gone public, or have the potential to go public, as part of the Corporate Executive Services Group DB Alex. Brown. He is a member of VentureCapital.org’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Cooperative Venturing Network and acts as a mentor for early stage companies.

curt-hill-headshotCurt Hill is Senior Vice President of Customer Assurance (CA) for Cisco. His organization identifies and resolves a broad range of individual and systemic issues and shares its learnings across Cisco and the industry to predict and prevent recurring issues in product and software quality. His team is also responsible for customer listening, customer data protection, and multiple initiatives to improve customer experience and simplify doing business with Cisco.

Curt joined Cisco as a customer support engineer and went on to lead several global technical support organizations and geographies. Under his leadership, these teams launched new support models and introduced new services for Cisco’s global service provider and enterprise customers.

As an active participant in inclusion and collaboration initiatives within Cisco and in the industry, Curt is a member of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Workforce Alliance program and has provided job shadowing opportunities through the Cisco Connected Women program.

Before joining Cisco, Curt held positions with Hewlett-Packard, Novell, and AT&T. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in computer science, and has earned his CCIE certification.

rich-linder-picPrior to Co-Founding CoNextions, Rich Linder served as the President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Coherex Medical from 2006 to 2012. Rich led Coherex through all phases of the company including device design and development, corporate financing, clinical research, regulatory approvals, and all international commercialization phases. Rich negotiated a strategic transaction with Biosense Webster, a Johnson & Johnson company in 2012 which led to the acquisition of Coherex by Biosense Webster in 2015.

In 1996, Mr. Linder co-founded Rubicon Medical, Inc. where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer.  In 2000, Rubicon licensed to Abbott Laboratories its Guardian balloon embolic protection system, and Mr. Linder successfully took the company public.

Mr. Linder began his career in the medical device industry in 1991 at Merit Medical Systems after attending Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. Mr. Linder is the Chairman Emeritus and Co-Founder of BioUtah, Utah’s life science industry association serving more than 100 member companies in medical devices, diagnostics, and bio-tech and drug development.  Rich has held positions on multiple boards of life science companies.

Mr. Linder was awarded the Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology in 2015.  He was also awarded the Outstanding Entrepreneurial Spirit Award by BioUtah in 2015 “For Taking Risk and Demonstrating Commitment, Vision, and Entrepreneurial Spirit, and Accomplishing Change by Advancing Life Science Innovation.”

john_mayfieldJohn Mayfield is a principal at Peak Ventures, with experience in two high-growth tech startups, Instructure and Qualtrics. Prior to this, John spent several years in the bay area at Duff & Phelps, a global leader in valuation, where he worked on valuations for top companies in the tech industry. He also spent time at Peterson Ventures where he sourced, evaluated, and made investments in early-stage companies. John received an MBA and a B.S. in Finance from Brigham Young University.

diogo-myrrha-photoPrior to joining Peak Ventures, Diogo Myrrha led deal sourcing and due-diligence at Stoneway Capital. He co-founded Luvaire, where he managed Finances and Operations. He also spent time as Manager of Special Projects at Braven and led localization and translation for the company along with new product launches and the production and development of point of purchase marketing displays. Having led in both the Luvaire and Braven transactions, Diogo developed great M&A experience which has served him well as an investor and mentor. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Brigham Young University, although he admits loving words just as much as numbers.

Mark RobertsDr. Mark Roberts worked at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, internationally renowned cancer centers, as a grant-funded physician-scientist focusing on biology and treatment response of childhood leukemias. He then expanded his efforts to physician executive leadership positions that emphasized research and medical education working in Long Beach, California. In 2009, Mark completed a Masters of Medical Management, an executive MBA for physicians, at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, graduating first in his class. Mark came to Idaho in January, 2012 to become the inaugural Medical Director for Research at St. Luke’s Health System. This was subsequently expanded to include oversight for Medical Education for physicians-in-training, medical students, physician assistant students and nurse practitioner students. In addition to expanding clinical trials in a number of specialty areas within St. Luke’s, numbering around 200 active projects, Mark has created collaborations with small businesses and academic partners, including Idaho State University and Boise State University, to create an applied research program, testing clinical and business concepts for the new healthcare delivery system population health model. Mark and his physician wife Dr. Jennifer Gotto are strong supporters of the community, each serving as Directors for not-for-profit organizations. In supportive of entrepreneurial work and business development in Idaho, Mark joined the Boise Angel Alliance and serves as President and Mark and Jennifer are investors in both the Capital City Angel Fund and Gem State Angel Fund.

Jerry VanceJerry Vance, Preferred CFO, has provided CFO consulting services for over 250   businesses in various industries over the last 11 years. He specializes in management consulting, acquisition, fundraising, forecasting, valuation, equity, debt and other accounting services, and Jerry has been instrumental in securing and accounting for hundreds of millions of dollars of debt and or equity transactions. Prior to providing consulting services, Jerry served multiple public and private companies as a CFO and/or controller, some with international subsidiaries. He is a graduate of the University of Utah.
